We stayed at the Gran Melia Fenix Hotel in Madrid for a weekend break, and loved this hotel.
Gran Melia Fenix Madrid Entrance
It is a very stylish, smart and striking hotel with fabulous lobby area with sweeping staircase. The entrance does have a wow factor. The lobby leads through to a bar/ seating area with amazing ceiling, off here is the bar and also an ornate and smarter lounge bar (that serves fabulous cocktails!). The whole feel of the place is up-market, and it is (with some of the prices to match).
The hotel is in a great location, close to many of the tourist attractions (like the Communications Palace and the Library) and also the open air tour buses go past very nearby. It is also in walking distance to the smart shopping streets, including the famous El Corte Ingles Department Store.
The bedroom we stayed in (401) was very grand and plush, with massive and comfortable bed. The room had a great desk area, large TV, and iPod docking station and Clarins toiletries. The room had no view other than across to a building, but the room made up for that. We had access to to the business lounge, which was great. This has a dining area, sofa area and nice outside roof terrace. We had breakfast in there, which had a good spread – and also they had drinks and nibbles in the evening. The package we had also included wireless access, which is just as well as seemed to be very expensive to buy access.
This hotel was a real treat and the service and attention to detail was outstanding. Highly recommended!
