Looking for one of the Best London Hotels? Watch my South Place Hotel Tour and Review Vlog

Looking for one of the best London hotels for your visit to my hometown? Then I suggest you take a look at South Place Hotel in the City of London that I was asked to stay in and review for Tips For Travellers. Find out what I thought….!

Followers of Tips For Travellers know that I like to video hotels I stay in – as I believe that showing you around the facilities and room is better than simply writing a review. So here is my video tour and review of the South Place Hotel.

As I say in the video, I found it to be a modern and trendy hotel. Everything felt stylish and up-market. This was not a surprise as I knew that it belongs to the D&D Group who own some of London’s hippest restaurants, including two of my favourites: Bluebird on the famous King’s Road and the Orrery on the Marylebone High Street.

The hotel is their first and is between Moorgate and Liverpool Street stations and surrounded by a mix of financial offices and emerging tech businesses. It has 80 bedrooms, a Chop House Diner open most of the day with adjacent bar, “Secret Garden” bar and a Michelin-star seafood restaurant on the room called Angler. It also has a fitness room and spa.

The decor of the room I stayed in, which apparently is typical in size and style, was comfortable and a had a “wow” factor. There were many touches that made the hotel feel special, such as the retro-looking chairs by the windows, pencil-case with branded pencils, bedside controls that operated the lights and the very good black-out blinds. The bathroom was the highlight of the room for me! It was large with vast bath, twin basins and a shower with two shower heads. Pleasantly for a premium hotel, the Wi-Fi is included.

The bars and restaurants seemed to usually be busy, especially on weekday evenings and weekend lunch times. I ate in the Chop House and it served British fare and a great breakfast fry up.

This hotel is a premium option for staying in London, and our room rate was just under £300 a night. It is worth checking the hotel site and sites like LateRooms.com to see if there are offers or discounts. For example there was a three nights for two deal running while we were staying there.

I think this hotel will suit travellers looking for an upmarket and stylish place to stay in the heart of the City of London. There are good dining options in the hotel as well as a short ten-minute walk away in the Shoreditch area. A popular “hipsters” hang out!

Any watch outs?

Our room faced into the internal courtyard and I would recommend you avoid these rooms if staying on the weekend. The Secret Garden Bar can get busy or (as on my stay) have a function, and the noise of drinkers and the DJ could be heard in the room. It closes at 10pm however and so does not affect sleeping.
