White Pass And Yukon Railroad Skagway. See Why This Could Be The Train Ride Of Your Life!

White Pass and Yukon Railway Skagway AlaskaThe most popular attraction in Skagway Alaska for cruise visitors is to ride the historic White Pass & Yukon Railway. Built to support the massive gold rush, this narrow gauge railway opened in 1900 and winds up through the mountains from the small town right to the summit of the pass. It is stunning. A real marvel of engineering. I went on an excursion with Holland America Line off the Nieuw Amsterdam on my 7-night Inside Passage cruise, I can highly recommend this ! I loved it.

We chose to go on the “luxury” car. There is one of these on every train that runs. It means there are only 14 people and you can move around and see the sights easier. You also get a personal guide for the carriage who also serves drinks and snacks.

The views from the train and amazing. As you can see below:

The bad news is that the luxury car costs about three times the cost of the regular carriages. It costs over $300 per person to travel in it, and it does get sold out fast so make sure you book as early as you can.

Note: I travelled as a guest of Holland America on their 7-night Alaska Inside Passage cruise on the Niuew Amsterdam. I paid for this excursion myself and was not covered by the cruise line.
